Al Jarreau, nome d'arte di Alwyn Lopez Jarreau (Milwaukee, 12 marzo 1940 - Los Angeles, 12 febbraio 2017)

E' un cantante statunitense.

Figlio di un pastore della Chiesa Avventista del Settimo Giorno, ebbe le prime esperienze canore in un coro ecclesiastico. Durante gli anni del college cantò in un coro dilettantistico chiamato The Indigos e si diplomò nel 1962.

Le prime vere esperienze professionali sono legate ad un trio capitanato da George Duke; da allora Jarreau decise di intraprendere la carriera di cantante professionista.

Al Jarreau è l'unico cantante ad aver vinto tre Grammy Award in tre diverse categorie: jazz, pop, and R&B. Cantante moderno, capace di esplorare con la voce tutte le timbriche, su ritmi swing, pop, jazz e R&B. Baritono naturale, è noto per la sua capacità di evoluzione timbrica e per il modo di saltare fra le ottave.

L'8 febbraio 2017 viene ricoverato in un ospedale di Los Angeles a causa di un grave esaurimento nervoso, che lo costringe a cancellare tutti gli spettacolo previsti, ritirandosi dalle scene. Muore quattro giorni dopo, un mese prima di compiere 77 anni.
